Dear Washington School Community,
Every year under the new state budget requirements more is cut from the education of our students. To really understand the process and its impact, we encourage you to participate in the meetings below. One thing is certain, unless something changes at the state level, beneficial educational programs in Summit will be cut every year going forward. Get involved in these meetings and in Speak Up Summit to make your voice heard locally and at the state level.
Your PTA Board

Dear Parents:
I am pleased to announce that WashingtonSchool will be hosting the Board of Education Meeting on March 19, 2009 at 8:00 PM in the gym. During this meeting the third graders in Mr. Folk's class will be performing their dance from our multicultural assembly.
It is my hope that you will be able to attend this special event. It is our community as a whole, including students, parents, teachers and administrators that make this school so unique. Let's share this honor of host by coming together to celebrate and showcase one of WashingtonSchool's wonderful ideas.
Sincerely,
Lauren Banker

LeDerick Horne, a nationally recognized motivational speaker and advocate for people with disabilities, will present "Growing Up Special" on Monday, March 23, at 7 p.m. in the library of Summit High School, 125 Kent Place Blvd. The presentation is open to the public; there is no charge for admission.
Mr. Horne is a protégé of Jonathan Mooney, founder of Project Eye to Eye and author of the book, "Learning Outside the Lines." In the presentation, Mr. Horne will reflect on his academic career and the difficulties he encountered as a student with a learning difference.
The funds for this event were made available through a grant provided by the Summit Educational Foundation (SEF). The grant proposal for Mr. Horne's visit was made by Debbie Kosak, supervisor of special services for the SummitPublic Schools, and Pat Walsh, transition coordinator for the Summit Schools.
Questions about the presentation may be directed to Ms. Walsh at 273-1494, ext. 5475, or Ms. Kosak at 273-6658, ext. 4.

Only 80 Days Until Country Fair!
Tin Can Auction at the Country Fair!
If you have any new items to donate to the Tin Can Auction for the baskets (sports items, toys, games, spa, gourmet items, gift certificates, etc.), we have set out a bin in the front Lobby of the school marked "Tin Can Auction".
Also, if you have any connections to tickets for sporting events, rental homes and/or trips that could be offered at the silent auction at the Country Fair, that would be most appreciated. Please contact Heidi Russell at 277-1755 or Heidi@johnlawton.com and she will be happy to pick up the items.
Thank you from the Tin Can Auction Committee!
